CARERS WEEK – 8 – 14 JUNE 2020 – MAKING CARING VISIBLE IN 2020
This Carers Week is time to reflect on how important the caring role is to our society. The huge contribution that carers make, the challenges they face supporting those they care-for as well as balancing their own well-being, made even more difficult during COVD times.
Carers UK inform us that there are 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers, they often feel isolated and lonely whilst looking after a family member or friend who had a disability, mental or physical illness, or who need extra help as they grow older.
Caring can be an extremely rewarding experience but can also be very complicated, whether it is grappling with understanding the benefits system, how to pay for care, getting a carer’s assessment which looks at what support might be needed, or how to improve well-being and access valuable emotional support.
During these particularly difficult times carers who are looking after the very vulnerable in our society every day, are living with increased worries, anxiety and exhaustion with heightened fears and concerns. Caring can lead to feelings of loneliness and being disconnected, so it is important to speak to someone who understands what you are going through, a listening ear to get support for your own well-being as well as being able to connect you to a range of services within our Borough.
Many unpaid carers do not realise they are a carer - the reality is that there is a 50:50 chance that any one of us will become one at some point during our lifetime.
If you are a Carer or you know someone that is and needs support, this is time to share your thoughts and concerns with us at The Havering Carers’ Hub you can contact us on 01708 961111 or email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Your well-being is important to us and we are here to help!
